Bay Trail

Writer: Michael CarpenterMichael Carpenter

The San Francisco Bay Trail is an attempt to encircle the entire San Francisco Bay with a multi-use trail. It isn't complete, but large segments are. I've done several segments in the South Bay, and I'll try to add photos here as I connect more segments.

The trail is marked by sign posts like this.

For this hike, I parked behind the Yahoo building at the end of Mathilda Ave in Sunnyvale. I walked past these dishes and thought, "What is this?"

I heard a rustling in the bushes, and this guy struts out. Oh, that's what the corn and water is for!

Egrets are all over along the baylands.

This egret takes flight over a mat of moss growing in the stagnant evaporating ponds.

This section of the Bay Trail is a great biking path. Note the fire starting in the east foothills.

Swallows resting on the barbed wire fence around Moffett Naval Air Station.

A little tweaking in Adobe Lightroom turns the birds into art.
